New Beta Booster - Sep 4 - Word Processor Module

Let me add to Tom's comments with some additional information on the business model introduced with this release.

While I am very pleased with all the new user driven features in today's beta, I am very excited by our new Word Processing Module for WordPerfect Lightning, which, for $49, will allow Microsoft Office users use WordPerfect Lightning in much the same way as users of WordPerfect Office X3. The module allows us to reach out to the more than 400 million worldwide users of Microsoft Office with Lightning, which is proving to be versatile, easy to use and really useful for PC users' most common productivity tasks.  Working with other technologies was a key piece of feedback in the Forums.

The addition of a Microsoft Word compatible module is also something of a departure for Corel, since WordPerfect Lightning needn't be a tool that tries to wrest our users' attention away from Microsoft Office in favour of WPO -- although I do encourage everyone to switch or at least try. The new Word Processing Module aallows WordPerfect Lightning to complement Microsoft Office, getting WordPerfect products onto desktops worldwide that were formerly the exclusive domain of Microsoft -- delivering some valuable exclusive features while we're at it!  I will add detail on the feature and how to activate it in the Forums tomorrow.

As usual, let us know what you think.

I read somewhere that I can d/l the MS Word pluging and take it for a ride.  A quick search didn't find it.  Can you point me to it?

BTW, I'm slow to give MS any more of my money, will it work with Word 2000?

The module is compatible with MS Word 2003 and 2007 but not earlier versions.

One must compliment Corel's guts in charging $49 for a product which is in beta and still has many imperfections !! No wonder, instead of ironing out the bugs and polishing the product before offering it to new markets, you came out with the new beta principally with this add-on, and let other issues remain. I have stopped using the product because the improvements are so slow that I think it is a waste of time. Good luck in getting paid customers.

Will there in the future also be a support for other Office's?

Like OpenOffice, Lotus, etc.

Then I can recommend Lightning to other folks...

I am happy WP have come out with a speedy word processor. I would, however, like WP to produce this programme to appear more discretely on the desktop. I wish to produce small notes without having to open up a big wordprocessing programme etc etc etc. A quick and simple memo and note programme will do fine. It could learn, too, from WP 5.1 by incorporating keystroke shortcuts. Perhaps that is where its genius will be found. Also, it could learn from IBM's OS/2's objects to produce a programme from which pages are opened not by opening a large programme, but by tearing off a template a page to type on. OS/2 has lots to teach.

Kind regard,

Mark

How about adding the ability to use OTHER OLDER versions of WP with the module?  That would be worth $45.00!

Let me first explain that I have been using WP since ver 1.1 when formating required dot-commands, and except for the first Windows version, it has been the best word processor on the market.  I was initially excited about looking at Lightning to replace MS OneNote as a tool for project documentation  since MS does not seem to care about supporting it. While Lightning has a few features that are superior, as a whole, it is much less useful, as it is lacking a host of features that OneNote possesses, several of which have been mentioned in your forums.  You may want to go back to the drawing board on Lightning and start with the OneNote model and expand from there.  Both programs are lacking support for integration with spreadsheets, e.g., table functionality emulating simple spreadsheet functions, like column and row totals or averages.  One of the first tasks I tried was copying a block from Excel and Lightning pasted it as text, not a table.  I do prefer Lightning's presentation of folder hierarchy within the notebook, but agree with one of the forum commentors that multiple notebooks would be useful for users with large quantities of various subjects.

Also, a mobile version of WordPerfect would be nice with an associated version of Lightning.  But until you make the whole program really useful, I don't think it would be worth the effort.
