Trying out the additional word processor functionality in the latest update:

You have probably seen some of the details on our latest release - where we have a module that will allow you to take notes and folders of notes into Microsoft Word (you used to be able to only do this to WordPerfect), as well as save individual Notes in Microsoft Word (.doc) format (even without Microsoft Word on the system!) - essentially making Lightning a very economical replacement for Microsoft Word for low end word processing.

This is actually a separate module that gets downloaded after you start to down the path to use the functionality.  Here's how you do it:

    1. Download the latest Corel Lightning product from www.corel.com/lightning
    2. Two easy ways to get the module once you download are:
      1. to select "Save As" from the tool bar in the Viewer window
      2. click the Settings button in the tool bar of Navigator window and then select the word processor module
    3. Once you select either of these options (Save gives you the options dialog to download, Settings requires you to select Microsoft Word and then it gives you the options dialog)
    4. Go through the download process (it should be automatic) and then you should have the functionality for a free 30 day trial (I had to re-start the application but I may have been to eager on getting through the process and didn't let it install)
    5. Then, use the functionality...Tell us what you think...You should now be able to save individual notes in .doc format to share with others and you can select a folder of Notes to automagically flow into Microsoft Word - saving you time of cutting and pasting.

I'm new using Lightning, but it seems to me a very useful tool in my day-to-day work. I'm also trying the additional word processor funcionality, and my personal impressions are the following:

    • It seems reasonable to have to pay for a funcionality for a final release, specially thinking that this funcionality is designed to work with a product of other company, like Microsoft Word, but in fact Lightning is already as a beta version.
    • My native language, as you can see just by reading this message, is not english and the word processor funcionality doesn't export correctly special characters, like the spanish ones (á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ, and so on).

In my job, I've to use Microsoft Office, and this is not my elecction, but my company's one, so I'd pay fot this funcionality if it would really work in a correct way with foreign characters (which, in fact, are really well displayed in Lightning).

     Kind Regards

    Hello,

The WP Module works really well, better than Microsoft OneNote, in that it keeps the format of websites copied. Just one little addition would make it perfect for University and research use - the ability to automatically copy the website address and timestamp to the note (as OneNote does), to keep a line of evidence for work submitted. Without this addition it cannot replace Microsoft OneNote in an educational or research environment, as evidence without address or timestamp is not accepted; so it's not worth buying a copy until this omission is rectified.

    Kindest regards,

    John.
